When most people think about a plumbing leak, they automatically think about water leaks.  This is, without a doubt, the most common plumbing leak, but there is also the possibility of having a leak in the sewer system or the gas system.  Any of these leaks can be costly, because major damage, can be a health risk, and should be checked and repaired as soon as possible.

Water Leak Indicators:

  • Excessively high water bill
  • Sounds of running water when water is not being used
  • Running toilets and/or dripping faucets
  • Musty odors from floors or walls
  • Soft spots in walls
  • Warm areas or moist areas in floors
  • Mildew
  • Unusually moist or wet areas in the yard

Sewer Leak Indicators:

  • Chronic back up of the sewer system
  • Musty odors from floors or walls near drains
  • Mildew near drains
  • Sewer odor
  • Unusually moist or wet areas in the yard
  • Exceptionally healthy plants (plants love the nutrients found in sewage)

Gas Leak Indicators:

Note:  Gas leaks are extremely dangerous, if you have any of these indicators, immediately turn off the gas supply at the gas meter and call a professional to evaluate, locate and repair the leak.

  • Excessively high gas bill
  • Rotten egg odor
  • Brown or dead area in yard lawn or plant areas

If you experience any of the above symptoms, chances are you have an existing leak in the system.  Leaks should be corrected as soon as possible, they only get worse with time, and create a more costly repair.  In addition, it is now known that mold and mildew can have adverse health effects for you and your family.
